The Forêt ancienne has an abundance of wildlife and remarkable flora. From spring onwards, a wide variety of nesting birds can be found, including several species of warblers, rose-breasted cardinals and many others. In winter, it is also possible to observe the many birds that flutter around the refuge’s feeders. Their songs enliven every inch of the forest.
The park is also a great place for mycology enthusiasts. If you take the time, you can see mushrooms of all colours and shapes, especially in the fall.
All along the trails, you will come across various interpretation panels that will teach you more about the importance of natural environments such as wetlands and riparian strips. You will also discover the particular species of fauna and flora specific to the park.
In addition, since spring 2023, the “De l’Érablière Trail” is better suited as a name for the trail, given the addition of the comic strip “Il était une fois l’érable dans L’Érable” (in French only). From one panel to another panel, follow the adventures of our endearing woodland turtle and his companions. You’ll learn more about maple syrup production in the days of the First Nations, the sugar shack as we know it, other aspects of the maple industry (such as cabinet making), its industrialisation and, of course, the tourist side of the L’Érable region!
